Friday 3rd November 2023

Dear Families,

Even with  the persistent rain, we have had  a lovely first week back-the children have settled in beautifully. You should receive your children's homework and medium-term plans for this half-term which outline what the children will be covering.

A reminder that next Friday is Saint Martins Day- we ask all the children to bring their lanterns to school (if they are in ASC) and remind you that there is our annual parade after school from 4:30. Please read the friends section for more information.

In Reception the children have been busy making their lanterns.

Finally, a warm welcome back to one of our hard  working traffic wardens who was taken on an unintentional holiday- we are glad to have her back.

Have a great weekend,

Jo

Reading                                        School Library

We are having a big push on reading - we need every child to ensure that they read each night and have their reading record signed. Ten minutes a day, across a year, leads to a real development in your child's reading skills, but also a fantastic habit for life.

All children by now should have earned their 30 reads award-this should be acknowledged in their reading record, and they should have received a sticker.

We would really like to open our library on Friday afternoons-so that classes can visit and take books out.

We would also like to open it at lunchtimes- as a relaxing place to go and read.

As you can imagine, we don't have the staff to mange this and consequently we are looking for volunteers who would support us facilitate this. If this sounds like you - please come and speak to me.

Be Kind Day   - November 13th

Giving that kindness is our number rule, we could hardly let Be Kind Day go a miss. On Friday 9th your children will come home with two kindness templates and we ask you to support them in this task of filling them out. They can be either an act of kindness received or one given .

We are asking that you pin these acts on our 'kindness' wall which will have outside on Monday 13th.

Friends Corner

Hello lovely JKPS Families,

FoJKPS are pleased to be hosting the traditional German celebration of Sankt Martin's Day on our school grounds again. On Friday 10th November from 4:30pm to 5:30pm all JKPS children and their families are invited to gather around a bonfire with their lanterns. We will provide refreshments and a bite to eat for the kids and will be singing some traditional German Sankt Martin songs.

Some information for those of you not familiar with the tradition of Sankt Martin's: The tradition came about in honour of the benevolence of a Roman knight, Martin of Tours, who shared his cloak with a beggar on a cold evening, and reinforces the idea of empathy and sharing. Children will be familiar with this story from school discussions.

Lanterns:
Reception children will be making lanterns at school.  All other years can make their lanterns at home or purchase a paper lantern on Thursday, 9th of November, at pick-up time from the Friends. All children can collect a lantern stick and LED tea light to put in their lantern at the start of the event for free.

Welcome back and we hope you are refreshed and ready for all the events coming up this half term! Keep an eye on our website or the noticeboard by the gate if you are unsure of times and dates. To find out more about us or to get involved, head to fojkps.org or email us at fojkps@gmail.com.

DEADLINE TODAY! Pedder Boards for the JKPS Christmas Fair. Today is the last day to sign up for a Pedder Board to support the JKPS Christmas Fair. Please support this great fundraising opportunity by putting up a Pedder Board in front of your house. Pedder will erect the board and remove them, so there's nothing more for you to do than sign up here.

Our Sankt Martin’s Day celebration is next Friday (10th) in the school grounds from 4:30 - 5:30pm. All JKPS children and their families are invited to gather around a bonfire with their lanterns. We will provide refreshments and a bite to eat for the kids and will be singing some traditional songs. You can find links to the songs and tutorials on how to make a lantern here. If you’d like to buy a lantern, we will have a limited number for sale after school on Thursday, for £3.
We are still looking for a few more helpers! Please sign up!

It’s Christmas tree time again! Once again we are offering a great chance to buy a very competitively priced Christmas tree which can be delivered directly to school in time for the Christmas fair on 9th December. Please place your order before 30th November. A small amount from each sale will go towards the FoJKPS for school enrichment activities.

Our FoJKPS Christmas Fair is on Saturday, 9th December 2pm - 5pm. While you pick up your Christmas tree, join us for festive fun with hot drinks, baked goods, finger food, crafting activities and festive carol singing!

Gardening Day  Our next one is next Sunday 12th November 11am - 3pm, meanwhile if you’d like to you can join the gardening WhatsApp group here: FoJKPS Garden Group.

And finally, you might have spotted the new basketball hoops that FoJKPS have provided for the school. Every slice of cake bought at a bake sale, pair of trousers bought at a uniform sale, beer bought at Oktoberfest or monthly/annual donation counts towards us being able to provide equipment like this for our children, so thank you.
